I just remembered this out of nowhere and as always, it sends me into peals of laughter. During my confirmation retreat 3 years ago, my class and I were exiting the church to discover that it had rained during mass. As the smell of rain cooling off the hot cement filled our senses, one classmate commented, “It smells like updog in here.”
Oblivious as always, this declaration flew over my head without any thought.
However another classmate, confused, demanded, “What the fuck is updog?”
A few of us naturally snapped our heads up and tried to stifle our giggles. Then, again.
“What the motherfuck is updog?!”
Sometimes I wish I could go back to these days. :)
There is this girl at my high school.
Who spends her release period printing out
& cutting out quotes.
Like “You are beautiful, don’t worry.”
“I’ve never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful. ”
“Close your eyes, see the beauty.”
“Fuck what others think, be original. & Remember you’re beautiful.”
& she tapes them all over the girls bathrooms.
And just around in random classrooms on desks and doors.
And I’m one of the only people that know she does it.
Because sometimes I would skip and sit with her while she cut them apart.
& it just feels good to see one of the most gorgeous women I’ve ever seen
Go out there and trying to make all girls feel beautiful.
& It’s starting to work because everyone would walk around school
Handing quotes to each other.
But she graduated last year,
And I’m nervous that no one is going to continue
This thing that everyone would talk about.
And be excited about.
And just remind everyone that they’re gorgeous.
